Customer Comments & Testimonials

We have hired our Californias to some lovely people. Here are a few of their comments...

We have had an absolute ball of a time for nine nights in Betty Blue. On a practical note Betty could not have been better designed and equipped. The cooking equipment was better than the majority of Air B&Bs we have stayed in and has allowed us to be quite creative with our cooking and make some lovely meals. Linda’s very thoughtful additions of herbs and spices and the homemade jam were also very much appreciated.

Our highlights of the nine days were...

We wild camped at Latheronwheel Harbour. We arrived early evening in thick sea fog. This quickly cleared and we awoke to the most beautiful sunrise over the sea.

Driving the spectacular Drumbeg loop in Assynt to stay at Clachtoll Beach campsite, perched high on the cliff tops and run by the most friendly and thoughtful staff.

Camping at Big Sands near Gairloch. The campsite is huge but very well spaced out and you can camp at the edge of the sand dunes, just minutes from the beach. The Northern Lights were visible when we were there.

Than you so much Linda, Jeremy and Betty Blue for a wonderful and much needed adventure.

There is nowhere quite like the Scottish Highlands in the Autumn. A spectacular display of colour on the trees as we made our way north to Inverness where we stayed on the banks of the Beauty Firth. Northwards past John O’Groats we took the ferry from Gills Bay to St. Margaret’s Hope on South Ronaldsay, Orkney.

The Wheems Organic Farm Campsite offers the most spectacular views of both an Orcadian sunrise and sunset. And very close to the beautiful beach of Newark Bay.

The return journey via Thurso and Wick, through the wind farm was quite surreal, and following the coastal roads of Caithness and Sutherland is particularly pleasing. Wild camped near the Falls of Bruar, Pitlochry. The waterfalls and forestry are quite stunning and very picturesque.

Betty has been an absolute delight throughout this trip, easy going, very accommodating and very reliable. Our second time renting from Jeremy and Linda. This whole trip during the coronavirus pandemic has been a real tonic. The NHS should be able to prescribe this… Travel Scotland by VW California, twice yearly. Highly recommended

Francisco, a real gentleman!

He reserved such a warm welcome for us three and in the first miles he was very indulgent for letting us get used to him. He was so polite (discreet beeps that the door was still open after our numerous stops along the Scottish roads to contemplate and take in the stunning nature) Francisco was protective and comforting (in the sometimes cold nights of late April), took the scenic and sinuous roads especially in Ardnamurchan with elegance, didn’t complain about the dirt on his impeccable ‘frock’ caused by the rain, and stood still with us to let the wild timid animals approach in the evening hours, patiently did some extra miles due to the ferry schedule, but managed to take five at least, he behaved with such good manners on some old, slippery and bumpy single track roads. He entertained us with good happy music, listened to endless bedtime stories for our daughter and uplifted our moods from dusk ’til dawn. He is just like a Swiss knife with all the essentials you need to do wild camping (Huge thank you to Linda and Jeremy). And last but not least, he enjoyed deeply the ‘Californian’ like sunsets on the beach front on the Kintyre West coast and even more on Islay, Impressive.

Francisco, you became the key element to our unforgettable and wonderful family road trip! We can only apologise to our trustworthy companion for having to say good-bye now, but luckily Francisco, you’re in good hands and up to a lot of new adventures.

Thank you deeply, Linda and Jeremy, for this excellent forethought contribution to make this VW van experience PERFECT!

We loved travelling with Francisco! We couldn’t have wished for a better companion for our round trip through Scotland.

Francisco helped us to calm down and forget our everyday business. We were so close to nature and still felt safe and comfortable. Even while wild camping Francisco protected us from midge attacks at Ben Hope. We absolutely loved to fall asleep under the pop up roof and to wake up with unforgettable views of the Ocean.

Special thanks to Linda and Jeremy who equipped Francisco so perfectly. Everything you could possibly think of you might need was stored somewhere in this magic Mary Poppins’ bag like camper van. Even though it felt huge in the inside, it drove like a normal car and made even the narrow, windy single-track roads fun driving.

We are really sad that our time with Francisco is over for now, but due to the fact that we not only fell in love with Francisco but also with the sunny side of Scotland (luckily not a single day of rain during nearly two weeks), we are already looking forward to our next trip with California Scotland!

Thanks again to Linda, Jeremy and Francisco ...

Zen or the Art of Motorvan Maintenance... First of all we had a wonderful time in Scotland and in the motorvan, sorry, "Betty Blue". She is a lady, but sometimes a real diva, we come to that later. At the beginning the car was quite big, like a lorry, and small inside, but after some days it was quite the opposite.

Betty was fun to go on the small coastal roads and it was getting better to coordinate the distance and velocity of the oncoming cars, that sometimes we just passed without stopping. So she really liked these roads and it was like dancing. We especially liked the pop up roof. It was like a tree house, sleeping cool and being woken by the birds every morning.

Everything became routine in handling and managing the daily tasks in the van. It was amazing to have an afternoon tea in front of Eileen Donan Castle, also in the Fairy Glen. So our favourite spots have been: Glen Brittle, Fairy Glen/Pools, Glen Etive, Glen Coe, Applecross, Summer Isles... We hate to leave Betty now, but hope she is in good hands with you reading this now...

We went on a ten day trip with ‘Betty Blue’. She was brand new — We were blessed to be her first clients. Jeremy came to the airport to pick us up and it was not easy for him to give this baby away... After ten days I think I got it. If you have time to read a book of 700 pages that gives you a precise feeling of what a car can do with a human being I propose you read Stephen King’s classic book "Christine". I felt exactly like the main character Arnie Cunningham. He totally lost his mind after he bought an old ’58 Plymouth Cadillac and was possessed by it in seconds. Betty Blue did the same to Henny and me. She gently took the steepest hills in the Western Highlands, kept us warm in the frosty April nights and somehow managed to find the nicest places on her own.

Daily problems, sorrow or thoughts about work or home disappeared in the first few minutes. Beware... More than one time I woke at night with doubts that I’m strong enough to bring Betty back home to lovely Linda and Jeremy. It just feels like you need nothing else on Earth.

Finally my lovely partner Henny convinced me to drive her home. Don’t be upset that we didn’t offer details of where to go and what to see... Simply trust Betty... get in the car and everything will be fine. She knows what to do — she knows what is good for you. We are leaving thankful but heartbroken as well. And for sure we we’ll come back to go for new adventures with Betty Blue. Treat her with respect — she’s a lady. If not — you might get in big trouble. You’ll find it all in King’s "Christine".

Wow... Wow... Wow! What a great way to see Scotland! The Cali (Jackie Brown) was amazing, Home from Home, super equipped, comfy and a real pleasure to drive! Many, many thanks to Linda and Jeremy, although you now caused us a big problem... "We want to buy a Cali"

Frankie & Sharon — Hartlepool September 2017

It has been an amazing adventure. We hired on a trial before buy idea, hubby had his work cut out to convince me but I’ve fallen in love with the whole concept! Gives you so much freedom and more space etc than I thought!

Linda and Jeremy have been great from start to finish, so professional yet a very personal and friendly touch. Linda has thought of everything to make "Chuck" feel like a home, from the lovely woollen rugs to the herbs, little baskets to keep everything in, I could go on and on.

Thanks guys for an amazing time and the loan of Chuck. Think we will be looking into buying our own now. California Scotland highly recommended 5 Stars!

I thought we could call it Chocolate. But my wee Sister called it Kinder because on the outside its chocolate colour and on the inside it’s a lovely surprise. Although It was not very good weather it was very fun. My mum said it was going to be cold and bad but actually enjoyed it the most! My little sister said she “Liked sleeping on the top cause it felt like sleeping on air”.

We stayed in Glen More and saw lots of RED squirrels. And we stayed in Blair Atholl and it was very organised. We went to Pitlochry and the Enchanted Forest. There was an amazing light show. We also took it up CairnGorm Mountain. It was amazing because it was snowing and looked pretty.

Lovely trip I can’t wait for our next adventure in the camper van. PS Thank you for the Jam

Absolutely Stunning! Van was immaculate when we picked it up — It took less than a day getting to know the Cali — Jeremy said she’d become “our friend” and she did! Cali took us to the Shetland Islands — fantastic to drive, hugged the roads — very comfortable to like and sleep in.

Thank you so much for all the bits and bobs included in the van — so well thought through we needed nothing.

Thoroughly recommend taking the Cali to Shetland, but longer than 2 weeks, we didn’t see it all... Jeremy and Linda — thank you for sharing your passion — it’s been a wonderful journey. With Love

During the years we have travelled through eleven European countries in three different VW California's. It is a kind of holiday which suits us. Now we also have seen Scotland in the fourth and very best California of them all owned by a very nice couple. We have had surprisingly good weather and feel very satisfied.

Our routes: Toxside, Kinross, Inverness, Ullapool, Dingwall, Nessie, Fort William, Balloch, Peebles, Dalkeith, and back to Toxside.

VW have built the perfect van, but Linda and Jeremy have put together a perfect mini home from home, a very thoughtful package.

Thank you so much for making our first ever Camper van holiday so easy.

Can't wait to do it all again!

Thank you for this funny and cosy new home. Lovely trip though Findhorn, Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, Arisaig, Glen Coe and Edinburgh. Lights, landscapes and overall the Scotts friendliness.

We'll be back!!

What a fantastic way to explore, tour & adventure though a beautiful country! Scotland in November, but what a pleasant surprise we had. Leaves turning orange & red, crisp — frosty mornings to curious stags spying through the Cali window! Breath taking scenery, each drive with it's unique beauty....

Thank you Linda & Jeremy for the well equipped & immaculate VW California!!

Tom & Gloria November 2014

The Van “Cali” has been fantastic — immaculate and very well appointed and equipped. Many thanks for the hire — already planning our next trip!
